Groceries to You! Launched

Groceries to You! is a new program of Koochiching Aging Options that links volunteer shoppers with older homebound residents of the International Falls area. Participants in a pilot project for the program reported gratitude for being able to call in an order and have volunteers shop for and deliver their groceries. Particpants need to be 60+ and live in the International Falls area. Once they pre-register they can call in their grocery order on Tuesday mornings. The following day volunteers deliver their order along with a receipt for the groceries. The participant must send in a payment to the store within one or two days. A contribution to the program is requested for this service. Those interested in the program may call Koochiching Aging Options at 218-283-7030 for more information. Volunteers welcome!

The sold-out Logging Camp Christmas captured the hearts and imagination of 140 guests the last day of November 2012. Diners donned their plaids and suspenders. Decorations by No Place Like Home Again transformed Backus Community Center into a logging camp. Camp Cook Cynthia Warren cooked a hearty three-course meal served by fourteen singing waiters. Entertainment was provided by Jessie Laurion and friends, including the Northwoods Combo of Effie. Entertainers performed songs and skits. Guests contributed to live and silent auctions and raffles, with gift items supplied by scores of area residents and businesses. Surprise visitors included Paul Bunyan, Babe and Santa Claus.
